Long-Range Strike Campaign on Russian Soil

According to UATV: Ukraine’s defense forces significantly escalated their long-range strike campaign inside Russia during June 2023, targeting critical infrastructure to degrade Moscow’s war machine. According to a July 1 report from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, the operation successfully struck 11 oil refineries, 7 fuel logistics hubs, and 8 military-industrial complex facilities.

Among the refineries hit were:

  • Moscow Refinery
  • Tyumen Refinery
  • Kuibyshev Refinery
  • Yaroslavl Refinery
  • Facilities in Ufa
  • Nizhnekamsk
  • Krasnodar Krai

At the Moscow Refinery, primary oil processing units sustained damage, while at the Slavyansk Refinery in Krasnodar Krai, four storage tanks with a combined capacity of 35,000 cubic meters were completely destroyed. Fuel logistics sites in the cities of Taman, Novorossiysk, Rybinsk, Saint Petersburg, as well as in Feodosia and Kerch, also came under attack.

Strategic Assets Targeted

Beyond refineries, Ukraine’s forces struck eight strategic military-industrial sites in June, including the Titan-Barricades, VNIIR-Progress, and VZPP-Mikron plants. The campaign also hit the Dubna and Vladimir space and military communication centers. Additionally, Russian warships, tankers, and port infrastructure were targeted.

The degradation of Russia’s oil refining sector and defense industry directly reduces the aggressor’s military-economic potential. Systematically destroying strategic assets inside Russia is an effective way to pressure its war machine. Ukraine’s defense forces continue to compel Russia to end the war. – Ministry of Defense of Ukraine

This campaign reflects a deliberate strategy to cripple the enemy’s infrastructure, potentially slowing the production of military equipment and limiting resource supplies for combat operations. As the conflict intensifies, these actions are seen as a move by Ukraine to strengthen its strategic position on the battlefield.
