Kyiv schoolchildren have received the right to free travel: details of the new benefits.
According to inkorr.com: From September 2025, new rules for using public transport have been introduced in Ukraine, expanding the number of individuals eligible for subsidized travel. In particular, the changes affect students and cadets of military educational institutions.
Students of Kyiv schools can now use city transport for free after the summer holidays, whereas previously they had to pay for travel. This decision was made by the Kyiv City Council.
Similar conditions apply to cadets of higher military educational institutions, who can now take advantage of public transport under subsidized conditions after a summer period of self-payment for services.
Free travel also extends to pensioners and veterans who have the right to use public transport for free. These groups can use city buses, trolleybuses, trams, and electric trains without payment.
To benefit from subsidized travel, citizens must have the appropriate identification: a pension certificate or a document confirming their participation in combat actions. In many cities, the presence of an electronic subsidized ticket is also mandatory, which simplifies control and accounting of subsidized passengers in the public transport system.
Expanding benefits in public transport
Increasing the number of benefits is part of the state policy of social support aimed at improving access to public transport for the most vulnerable segments of the population.
Thanks to the new benefits, students, pupils, pensioners, and veterans will find it easier to use public transport, which will enhance the overall level of social support among the population.
