Families of Missing Soldiers Rally in Kyiv, Awaiting Their Return.
Rally Demands Answers for Missing Soldiers
According to Novyny.live: In Kyiv on March 10, a rally was held to demand answers for soldiers who have gone missing in action. Participants carried the flags of military brigades and held photographs of their missing loved ones. The crowd included mothers, wives, and relatives of service members, all awaiting the return of their family members. One woman shared her anguish, stating:
“I wait, I hope, I believe. Just like everyone gathered here.”
Among the participants was Lyubov, who is waiting for her husband, a soldier in the 77th Airmobile Brigade. She expressed her feelings, saying:
“I miss him terribly and believe he will come back to me.”The demonstrators aimed to draw public attention to the plight of the missing, with many sharing deeply personal and heart-wrenching stories. This rally highlights a persistent and painful issue for thousands of Ukrainian families, even as the war continues.
Background of the Protest
The protest took place against the backdrop of recent prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia. On March 5, 200 citizens were repatriated, followed by the return of 300 more military personnel and two civilians from Russian captivity on March 6. While these exchanges are significant diplomatic events, for the families of the missing, the fundamental uncertainty remains unresolved and agonizing.
The rally underscores the ongoing crisis faced by the families of missing service members. Despite positive developments like prisoner swaps, the issue of those unaccounted for remains open and requires sustained attention from the state and society. Participants stressed the importance of not only securing the return of the living but also establishing the fate of those who have disappeared in the chaos of war.
