Honoring Alena Gramova's Legacy
According to UATV: A commemorative plaque has been installed in Kyiv to honor journalist Alena Gramova, who was killed while on duty in Kramatorsk on October 23, 2025. Gramova worked as a correspondent for the FREEДOM television channel, covering the consequences of Russian aggression in the Donetsk region for five years. Her reporting served as a vital link for people who remained on their land despite the dangers. This tribute highlights the ongoing risks faced by media professionals in conflict zones.
Operator Yevgeny Karmazin also lost his life in the same tragic incident. Additionally, Alexander Kolychev, a special correspondent for FREEДOM, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. In recognition of their sacrifice, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine posthumously awarded both Gramova and Karmazin the National Prize for the Defense of Freedom of Speech named after Igor Lubchenko.
Remembering Alena Gramova
Yulia Byn, a colleague who knew Gramova, remarked:
“She was a bridge between people—between those who stayed behind and refused to abandon their homes.”Vitaliy Volkov, another acquaintance, added:
“I think most neighbors who saw a smiling girl had no idea what Alena actually did.”These words underscore the profound impact Gramova had on her region and within the journalistic community.
The installation of the memorial plaque for Alena Gramova and Yevgeny Karmazin is a crucial step in preserving the memory of their contributions to journalism and the fight for press freedom in Ukraine. This event underscores the dangers journalists face in conflict zones and the importance of their work in uncovering the truth and maintaining connections among people in perilous conditions. By honoring their memory, society reaffirms the value of information and the critical role journalists play in shaping public awareness.
