What is known about the accident
During takeoff from Corfu airport, the right engine of the aircraft failed and caught fire, resulting in a deafening sound similar to an explosion heard by witnesses on the ground. The pilots quickly took control of the situation by deactivating the damaged engine and decided to continue the flight on one engine. The aircraft successfully landed at Brindisi airport, Italy, where the risk for emergency landing was less than that at Corfu airport. Fortunately, no one on board the aircraft - 273 passengers and eight crew members - was injured.
