Lukashenko announced the exchange of political prisoners for captives: this was denied at the headquarters.
According to ТСН: The press secretary of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Natalia Eismont, stated that over a hundred political prisoners, who were in prisons, were supposedly released in exchange for captured Russians and Belarusians who fought against Ukraine.
This information was voiced to the Russian agency TASS, but she did not specify how many captives were exchanged.
At the same time, the project "I want to live", which deals with the exchange of captives, denied Eismont's statement.
"This is not true", the project reported.
Return of civilians
The Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that on December 13, an event took place between Ukraine and Belarus during which civilians were returned. Thanks to the request and assistance of American partners, 114 civilians were transferred to Ukraine, among whom are Belarusian political prisoners and Ukrainians who were held on the territory of Belarus.
Statement by President Zelensky
Previously, President Zelensky announced that today five civilians of Ukraine will be returned home, who were imprisoned on the territory of Belarus, thanks to the efforts of the USA and the cooperation of Ukrainian and American intelligence services.
Negotiations and sanctions
After two days of negotiations between Alexander Lukashenko and the envoy of the US president John Cole in Minsk, the American side announced the lifting of sanctions on Belarusian potash.
These events highlight the activity of diplomatic efforts in the exchange of captives and normalization of relations. Despite disagreements in statements, the return of civilians remains an important step towards solving humanitarian issues in the region. Cooperation between Ukraine and the USA demonstrates that international support can play a key role in such processes.
