Scammer tricked a woman from Lviv out of 190 thousand hryvnias: how the deception took place.

The Ivano-Frankivsk District Court of Lviv found a previously convicted resident of Odessa guilty of fraud. He tricked a woman out of over 190 thousand hryvnias, lying to her that her daughter allegedly got into a car accident and needed help.

The court found that on April 4, 2024, the accused acted in collusion with an unidentified person. First, the accomplice called the landline phone of the elderly woman and provided false information about the alleged car accident involving her daughter and the need for urgent medical treatment.

Believing these words, the victim let the accused into her apartment, who, using deception, obtained from her 3050 euros (128,893 UAH) and 1600 US dollars (63,840 UAH) — a total of 192,733 UAH.

In court, the man fully admitted his guilt and confirmed the circumstances of the crime. His guilt was also confirmed by the case materials, which the parties did not dispute. The court qualified the actions under Part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — fraud committed by a group of individuals during wartime with significant harm.

The court took into account the defendant's previous convictions, including the sentences of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court from December 19, 2024, and the Lutsk District Court from July 2, 2025, the latter of which provided for 5 years of imprisonment and a fine. Based on Part 4 of Article 70 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, by partially consolidating the terms, the final sentence was determined to be five years and one month of imprisonment.

The court ordered to return to the victim the 2600 euros seized during the investigation, to lift the arrest on some of the physical evidence, to confiscate two mobile phones for state revenue, and to leave other physical evidence with the case materials.
