An unidentified balloon has been detected in the sky over Ukraine.
Today, December 25, an unusual object, which preliminary data suggests is a balloon with a corner reflector, was spotted over Ukraine. It is currently moving towards Transcarpathia. This has been reported by monitoring channels.
According to the information, the balloon is not being shot down as it is at an altitude of 7 km, and only aviation or surface-to-air missile systems can destroy it. Therefore, it is trying to be 'supported' by electronic warfare means to avoid wasting precious missiles.
'It is simply a balloon filled with gas that has a corner reflector with metal plates on a string. The main purpose of the balloon is to attract the attention of our air defense, as they perceive it as a target until they see it in the sky. That is, it is a decoy that closely resembles a drone or a small aircraft. Moreover, it may help determine the location of our air defense,' the message states.
An unidentified balloon appeared over Transcarpathia
It should be recalled that an unidentified balloon fell on Polish territory near the border with Belarus. The crash site is secured by police. So far, the balloon has not been identified, but it is likely a meteorological device. In Russia, near Kaliningrad, there is a weather station that launches balloons several times a day to measure temperature, humidity, and pressure. In strong winds, they sometimes land in border towns in Poland. It is also possible that this may be an aircraft belonging to smugglers, RMF FM reports.
A balloon from Russia appeared over Poland
This summer, a balloon broke free from a tether in the Kaliningrad region of Russia and flew into Polish airspace. This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces. It was noted that the movement of the balloon, which was moving east towards the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, was continuously monitored by radar stations of the Polish army.
