Germany US: The EU must consider Europe's interests in negotiations with Russia.
According to ТСН: The German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul believes that the United States must consider the interests of the European Union during negotiations with Russia in Florida regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
Wadephul emphasized:
“Only in this way can we achieve a result that will be acceptable for both Ukraine and all of Europe.”
He also expressed skepticism about the likelihood of progress in peace negotiations:
“I have long learned not to make personal hopes the measure of my expectations, but instead to look at the situation soberly and analyze how Russia behaves.”
Wadephul believes that if Russia shows a willingness to cooperate, it should evaluate the determination that Europe has shown in Brussels.
According to him:
“Negotiations in the US will be a continuation of what has already been discussed in Berlin, so they have quite a solid foundation.”
Furthermore, he characterized the European Union's financial assistance of 90 billion euros for Kyiv as a “clear signal to Russia”:
“It must continue to understand that Europe stands with Ukraine. This is a powerful signal to Russia that it should seriously compromise and sit down at the negotiation table.”
Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron had previously stated that Europe could move to direct negotiations with Putin if US peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine do not succeed.
Former head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, Army General Mykola Malomuzh, noted that if the Russian dictator Putin does not accept the West's terms regarding territorial integrity and guaranteed security for Ukraine, allies must move to a tougher model of pressure.
Therefore, against the backdrop of international efforts to end the war in Ukraine, the positions of Europe and the US remain key. Signals for compromise from Russia are becoming increasingly relevant, as assistance from the European Union reaffirms the unity of support for Ukraine in this crisis. Whether the Kremlin will accept these challenges will be determined by time, but the determination of the West puts new opportunities for peace in the region at stake.
