Construction Begins on Prague’s New Metro D Section

According to Novyny.live: Prague has officially started building a new segment of Metro Line D, which will connect the 'Olbrachtova' station to the future 'Nové Dvory' station. The project is scheduled to take six years, with the first section expected to begin operations in the second half of 2032.

This new stretch of Line D runs between the Olbrachtova and Nové Dvory stations. The first underground excavations are planned for the second half of August. Nové Dvory will be the deepest station on the new line, reaching a depth of 33 meters. Another station, 'Nemocnice Krč', will be built at a depth of about 17 meters. 'Nádraží Krč' will be the only above-ground station on this section.

What to Expect from the New Line

The entire Line D corridor will span approximately 10.6 kilometers and include 10 stations. It is projected to carry around 45 million passengers annually. This initiative is part of the broader expansion of Prague’s metro system, aimed at enhancing the Czech capital’s transportation infrastructure.

The construction of this new Metro D segment marks a major step forward for public transit, with goals to reduce car traffic and improve the city’s environmental conditions. The planned depth of Nové Dvory station highlights the engineering complexity involved, requiring significant effort and resources. Additionally, the project is expected to boost regional economic development by creating jobs and providing easier access to various parts of the city.
