According to ТСН: Valerian Sobolev has died in Russia — a prominent Soviet and Russian scientist and designer of rocket technology. He was one of the main authors of the launch systems for the Iskander and Topol rockets.

This information was confirmed by Russian media.

The 88-year-old designer died from illness.

Recognition and achievements

In Russia, Sobolev was considered a 'legend of the defense industry'. He was part of a group of leading engineers who worked on the development of self-propelled launch systems and ground equipment for strategic missile systems, including the intercontinental ballistic missiles 'Temp-2S'.

Moreover, he led the work on creating launch systems for mobile missile systems such as 'Pioneer', 'Pioneer-3', 'Iskander' and the mobile ground complex with ICBM 'Topol'.

Tragic events in the industry

Recently, another tragic event occurred in Russia: in the spring, one of the developers of the Iskander missile, 74-year-old Vladimir Nedoshivin, was killed. He died after a confrontation with a neighbor-plumber during a drunken brawl.

The death of Valerian Sobolev is a significant loss for Russian science and the defense industry. His contribution to the development of rocket technologies is hard to overestimate, as his developments had an impact on the country's defense capability. At the same time, the incident with Nedoshivin highlights the dangerous living conditions in certain strata of society, raising concerns about the overall safety in the field of science and technology.
