Female College Students in Russia Pressured to Enlist: Five Young Women Have Already Signed Military Contracts.
Recruitment Campaign Targets Students
According to Espreso.tv: At a technical college in Russia, female students are being urged to join the military, with at least five young women already signing contracts. On March 31, fourth-year students at the Kuzovatovo Technical College were gathered for a meeting where officials pressured them to commit to service. The institution, which has around 1,000 students spread across multiple locations, has become the site of an active recruitment drive.
During a school assembly, the college's director specifically approached female students with offers to sign new contracts for air defense roles. According to a student at the college, 'they keep drilling into the girls that it's safe—they’ll just sit in an office monitoring drones. And they’ll get a million rubles on top.' This marks the first known instance where female students have been directly recruited and have signed such agreements.
Growing Public Concern
This development signals a troubling shift in how Russia's military is targeting young people, particularly women, for service. A representative from the organization 'Idite Lesom' noted that this situation is alarming because it introduces new methods of drawing youth into the armed forces. The case highlights a broader trend of increasing recruitment among young Russians, raising red flags about the pressures they face.
Discussions about safety and service conditions, especially for women, demand greater scrutiny from educational institutions and human rights groups, as young individuals may be coerced into making life-altering decisions. Against the backdrop of shifting geopolitical realities and ongoing military conflicts, the enlistment of students could have far-reaching consequences for society as a whole.
