Reports indicate that clashes between protesters and law enforcement occurred in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Valjevo on the evening of August 16, under the slogan 'Serbia cannot be calmed down.'
In Valjevo, police used a raid and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, who in turn were throwing flares at the gendarmerie building. In Belgrade, protesters burned the flag of the Serbian Progressive Party during an attack on the political party office, and also smashed windows in Novi Sad.
According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, six police officers were injured and 38 people were detained as a result of the protests. The country's leader, Aleksandar Vučić, accused the protesters of trying to disrupt stability in Serbia.
The protests began due to citizens' dissatisfaction with the political situation in the country, and they are demanding early parliamentary elections. However, the president is not keen on calling them at this time.
