In Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, a police inspector released 13 detainees so they could celebrate the New Year. According to detective inspector Titus Fiiri, he took the keys from his colleague and opened the cells. The reason for this decision remains unknown.
A total of 15 people were detained, of which 13 escaped from the police station. After that, no one heard from this inspector again. Also on New Year's night in the capital of Mozambique, Maputo, about 1,530 detainees escaped from the police station. At the same Time, an accident occurred in Ethiopia, resulting in at least 71 deaths.
