Ukraine’s Defense Forces Strike Russian Steel Plant and Aircraft Repair Facility.
Operations by Ukraine’s Defense Forces
According to UATV: Ukraine’s military continues to target critical nodes of Russia’s wartime infrastructure, significantly hampering its production of ammunition and aircraft. On March 20, Ukrainian forces hit the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in Luhansk Oblast, while on March 17, they struck an aircraft repair facility in Staraya Russa, Novgorod Oblast. These attacks are part of a broader campaign designed to degrade Russia’s military capabilities.
Earlier, on March 16, Ukrainian forces attacked the Aviastar aircraft manufacturing plant in Ulyanovsk Oblast. Strikes on strategic assets like factories and depots sharply reduce the enemy’s ability to produce military equipment. On March 19, Ukraine’s Armed Forces targeted a fuel and lubricants storage site in Novotroitske, Kherson Oblast, which could further disrupt Russian supply lines.
“Ukraine’s Defense Forces strikes on Russia’s defense industry are key to weakening its military potential.”
Andriy Kovalenko
This assessment is echoed by the Institute for the Study of War, which notes that “Ukraine’s campaign of strikes at close range against Russia’s tactical rear is increasingly eroding both Russia’s offensive and defensive capabilities.”
Impact on Military Resources
Additionally, Ukrainian drones remain highly active, destroying six BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher systems. The destruction of a single Russian Ka-52 Alligator helicopter—valued at around $16 million—underscores the heavy economic toll on the adversary. Monthly Russian army losses now range between 28,000 and 35,000 personnel, delivering a severe blow to its military resources.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized that “the effectiveness of Ukraine’s army is measured, in part, by the scale of enemy losses.” These developments highlight Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to diminish Russia’s military potential through strategic strikes on key infrastructure targets.
Such actions by Ukrainian forces reflect a strategic approach focused on dismantling the enemy’s production capabilities. By hitting critically important sites, Ukraine can substantially impair Russia’s ability to sustain its military operations. As the conflict continues, these tactical moves may play a decisive role in shifting the overall balance of power on the front lines.
