Ukraine and Poland Negotiate MiG-29 Transfer: Kyiv's Offer in Exchange.
Ukraine-Poland Talks on Fighter Jets
According to UATV: Ukraine is in discussions with Poland to secure additional MiG-29 fighter jets and obtain maintenance equipment. As part of a potential swap, Kyiv is offering unmanned aerial systems. Polish National Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has confirmed that talks on the jet transfer have resumed.
Negotiations between Ukraine and Poland over the delivery of MiG-29s are ongoing, with Warsaw considering receiving various types of drone systems from Ukraine in return for the aircraft. In September 2022, Ukrainian specialists inspected 14 Polish MiG-29s. According to reports, some of these jets require repairs due to prolonged lack of servicing.
Prospects for MiG-29 Delivery
Transferring additional MiG-29s is contingent on them undergoing overhaul and modernization. Repairs could be carried out at the WZL-2 facility in Bydgoszcz, which would also help improve the jets' technical condition. The continuation of bilateral talks reflects a shared commitment to military cooperation and strengthening defense capabilities.
Defense collaboration between Ukraine and Poland could significantly impact regional security, especially amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The exchange of fighter jets and drones would not only bolster both nations' defenses but also enhance military cooperation within NATO, where Poland and Ukraine share common interests in maintaining stability in Eastern Europe.
