Zelensky named the main problem of peace negotiations with Russia: territories

According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, noted that the issue of territories is one of the most complex aspects in the negotiations to end the war. In this context, the positions of Kyiv and Moscow significantly diverge.

Impossibility of concessions

He stated this in an interview with Fox News.

“We cannot simply give up our territories. It is beyond our law. It is not just about the law — there are people living there, our army is stationed there,”
Zelensky emphasized.

According to him, about 300,000 people live in these territories, many of whom have suffered due to hostilities. Hundreds have been injured, dozens have died, so the issue of territories cannot be considered only formally or in a political context.

Peace plan and disputed issues

The President also confirmed that the 20-point peace plan is approximately 90% agreed upon. Only two issues remain unresolved, with the main one being territorial.

“When I said 90%, it is true. There is only one main issue where we have different views — it is territories. And these disagreements are not with the Americans, but with the Russians,”

he noted.

He added that the United States is aware of the positions of both sides and is trying to find compromise solutions. According to the president, over the past month, Ukraine has taken steps to advance the peace process.

Public opinion and referendum

Commenting on the possibility of conducting a referendum regarding the territories, Zelensky emphasized that it will not lead to a positive outcome and will not receive support from the Ukrainian society.

“Everyone wants peace, but not at any cost. A referendum on giving up territories will not be positive for Ukraine,”
he stressed.

He also added that if the peace plan is approved, it will be a significant political success for U.S. President Donald Trump, as the negotiations are taking place under his leadership.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the opinion that Russia supposedly “wants to see Ukraine succeed.”

It was also reported that Trump commented on recent accusations from the Kremlin that Ukraine allegedly carried out a drone attack on the residence of Russian dictator Putin.

The situation surrounding the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia remains tense. The future of the peace process depends on Kyiv's position, and the issue of territories continues to be key in this dialogue. At the same time, the international community is closely monitoring changes in the strategic course of both sides in an effort to achieve peace.
