Ukraine Shifts to Active Defense: How Its Forces Disrupt Russia’s Spring Offensive Plans.
Ukraine’s Military Adopts an Active Defense Strategy
According to UATV: Ukraine’s armed forces have adopted an active defense strategy aimed at thwarting Russia’s offensive ambitions. General Viktor Yahun, head of the Security Sector Reform Agency, points out that Ukrainian defense units are already interfering with Russian preparations for a spring campaign. A key element of this approach involves varying the depth and concentration of Ukrainian strikes.
Yahun explains that targeting Russian rear-area facilities—especially those producing missile components—as well as military infrastructure sites represents a new form of active defense.
“Ukraine’s defense forces are already breaking that logic, the logic of the so-called spring offensive, by striking military logistics,” - General Viktor Yahun
Despite these efforts, the situation remains tense, as the adversary still commands substantial resources to continue its aggression. According to Yahun, Ukrainian forces are already disrupting the pace of Russian troop preparations for the spring campaign. Additionally, Oleksandr Syrskyi has stressed the need to strengthen fortifications and enhance anti-drone defenses, both critical components of the active defense posture.
Tactical Adaptation and Its Impact on Combat Operations
In this way, the Ukrainian military continues to refine its tactics to counter Russian aggression, notably through strikes on key enemy military infrastructure. Experts believe that this active defense strategy could significantly influence the course of fighting in the near future.
This strategic shift reflects Ukraine’s determination not only to hold its ground but also to proactively shape the battlefield by hitting high-value targets. Adapting to modern warfare conditions and bolstering defensive capabilities are essential factors for ensuring the country’s security in the months ahead.
