Ukraine Boosts Teacher Pay: 20% Experience Bonus and Updated Salary Scales.
New Salary Increases for Educators in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is rolling out salary hikes for teachers along with new allowances added to base pay. Under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1391, educators with at least five years of experience will receive a 20% supplement to their official salary. This measure aims to support teachers and make the profession more attractive.
A minimum base salary for a teacher at the 14th tariff grade, including allowances, will reach nearly 15,000 hryvnias. This decision marks a key step in reforming the education sector, as teachers require decent financial backing. As of April 2026, minimum base salaries for teachers in grades 10 through 14 will be as follows:
- Tariff grades 10-11: from 11,883 hryvnias,
- Tariff grade 12: from 13,413 hryvnias,
- Tariff grade 13: from 14,179 hryvnias,
- Tariff grade 14: from 14,943 hryvnias.
Additionally, the minimum hourly rate for a teacher is 55 hryvnias based on a full workload of 160 hours per month. These new pay adjustments aim not only to improve teachers' well-being but also to encourage young people to choose teaching as a career—a critical factor for the development of education in Ukraine. The up-to-20% bonus for experienced teachers represents a significant move toward fairer compensation for those with relevant experience.
Strategic Importance of the Changes
The salary increases for educators in Ukraine are part of a broader education system reform designed to improve working conditions for teachers and enhance the quality of education. This initiative may also help reduce the emigration of young professionals from Ukraine, as competitive pay could motivate more people to stay in the field. Consequently, these changes hold strategic importance for the future of the country's education sector.
