Pay Hikes for Teachers in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Starting September 1, 2026, Ukraine plans to increase salaries for all teaching staff, including recent graduates entering the profession. Those who finish their studies in June 2026 will be the first to benefit from the updated pay scales. Under the new rates, novice teachers assigned to Grade 10 of the tariff schedule will earn a minimum of 6,315 hryvnias, while those at Grade 11 will receive 6,836 hryvnias.

The base salary for educators, as defined by the Unified Tariff Grid, is 3,470 hryvnias. However, with the upcoming adjustments, the minimum take-home pay for young teachers before deductions will be as follows:

  • 11,883 hryvnias for Tariff Grade 10
  • 12,649 hryvnias for Tariff Grade 11

After taxes—18% personal income tax and a 5% military levy—teachers will receive the following net amounts:

  • 9,150 hryvnias for Tariff Grade 10
  • 9,739 hryvnias for Tariff Grade 11

It is also worth noting that instructors working in inclusive classrooms will receive a 20% salary supplement. This measure is designed to encourage teaching careers, improve working conditions, and attract new professionals to the education sector.

How Teacher Pay Raises Could Shape Education

Raising teacher salaries from September 2026 marks a significant step toward modernizing Ukraine’s education system and improving the financial outlook for early-career educators.

Higher pay for teachers could have a substantial impact on the quality of education in Ukraine by making the profession more attractive to new talent. It may also boost teacher motivation, which in turn can enhance student outcomes. If implemented, these changes could become a key element in the broader reform of the country’s education system.
