The released defenders come from various units, including:
- Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel
- State Special Transport Service members
- National Guard troops
- Border guards
They defended Ukraine in multiple regions, such as:
- Mariupol
- Azovstal
- Donetsk Oblast
- Luhansk Oblast
- Kharkiv Oblast
- Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv Oblast
- Chernihiv Oblast
- Sumy Oblast
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to everyone involved in securing the return of captives. He stated:
'Thank you to our entire team, which works daily to bring our people back. Special thanks to all our units on the front line who replenish Ukraine's exchange fund and, through their bravery, make it possible for us to return people. We remember everyone in captivity. We check every name. We must bring back everyone—both military and civilian.' Volodymyr Zelensky
These remarks highlight the ongoing efforts to recover Ukrainian citizens affected by the conflict.
Prisoner exchanges serve as a critical humanitarian tool during armed conflicts. Returning service members to their homes not only reunites families but also bolsters the morale of the military and society at large. These events also demonstrate attempts by both sides to maintain dialogue, despite the conflict's duration and its toll on the population. Future exchanges could represent important steps toward a peaceful resolution in the region.
