Ukraine is developing its own glide bombs for protection against Russian attacks and preparing for strikes in the air war. Recently, a video emerged showing a Ukrainian Su-24 bomber carrying a prototype of a glide bomb (KAB), which is an important step in the development of new weapons.

This is reported by a Forbes article.

In July, Air Force Brigadier General Serhiy Holubtsov announced the development of a new gliding and guidance kit that would allow turning Soviet unguided bombs into precision munitions. The new bomb is most likely equipped with GPS-guidance and resembles the French Hammer, indicating potential copying of this weapon.

Ukrainian Air Force is satisfied with the range and accuracy of the Hammer munition, but they are not satisfied with the limited supply. France promises to deliver only 50 Hammer units per month, which is insufficient to counter approximately 3000 Russian KABs that the occupiers deploy monthly along the front line.

According to the publication, the new weapon will expand the range of Ukrainian munitions, which already includes Neptune cruise missiles, the Palianytsia missile drone, and many strike UAVs.

By creating its own precision weapon, Ukraine frees itself from complete dependence on allies for key military capabilities. Local production also allows bypassing restrictions on the use of foreign munitions, particularly the U.S. bans on strikes against targets inside Russia.

However, this idea will remain just an idea until the Air Force fully tests the new bomb and factories set up its production. The Ukrainian Air Force has already armed several types of aircraft with American and French glide bombs, including the Su-24, Su-27, and MiG-29. All these bombers will be able to carry the new Ukrainian bomb, significantly enhancing Ukraine's capabilities in air warfare.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the difficulties Ukraine faced due to delays in arms supplies.
