Ukraine Builds Strategic Reserve of Power Plant Equipment to Protect its Energy Grid.
Creating a Repair Equipment Reserve for Thermal Power Plants
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is establishing a reserve of equipment for repairing thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants, sourcing the components from Eastern Europe. This new strategy was announced by Ukraine's Energy Minister, Denys Shmyhal, during a government question session on February 13. The approach involves stockpiling all essential equipment that could be damaged by Russian terrorist actions, enabling rapid replacement and minimizing downtime.
We have therefore proposed a new approach—to create a reserve of all necessary equipment that could be damaged by Russian terrorists so that we have the capability to replace it promptly.

The EU's Energy Support Fund for Ukraine has received requests totaling 1.8 billion euros. This funding is crucial for ensuring the stability of the country's energy systems. Given that procuring and manufacturing this specialized equipment typically takes four to six months, the importance of building this reserve proactively cannot be overstated.
The Critical Importance of Equipment Reserves
Securing these equipment reserves is a vital step for maintaining Ukraine's energy security, especially under the constant threat of attacks. This initiative is part of a broader effort to harden critical infrastructure against targeted assaults that have repeatedly plunged cities into darkness during winter. Sourcing equipment from Eastern Europe may also strengthen economic ties with neighboring countries, which is a significant factor for the recovery and development of Ukraine's energy sector.
The successful implementation of this plan could substantially reduce the risks associated with accidents and damage to energy facilities. It would help guarantee a stable electricity supply and support the nation's overall economic resilience during this prolonged conflict.
