Ukrainian Defense Team Heads to Gulf States on Critical Mission.
Ukrainian Security Chief's Gulf Region Visit
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov, is leading a team to the Persian Gulf region on a mission directed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The primary objective is to secure protection against Iranian-made drones, which pose a significant threat to Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. This diplomatic push comes as Ukraine seeks to bolster its air defenses against sustained aerial attacks.
Presidential communications advisor Dmytro Lytvyn stated:
"Umerov, accompanied by a team, will visit several countries in the Gulf region. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council has a number of tasks to accomplish."
In exchange for assistance, Ukraine aims to obtain missiles for its air defense systems, including Patriots. Last year, Ukraine also proposed deals with the United States concerning drone interceptor technology.
Mission Objectives and Itinerary
To execute this mission, three groups of specialists have been dispatched to the Middle East. The Ukrainian delegation's itinerary includes visits to:
- Saudi Arabia
- The United Arab Emirates
- Qatar
This visit is part of Ukraine's broader efforts to strengthen its defensive capabilities and forge international partnerships in a strategically important region. Engaging with Gulf nations is a key component of Kyiv's strategy to diversify its sources of military and diplomatic support.
Rustem Umerov's trip underscores Ukraine's proactive diplomatic campaign to enhance its resilience against the threat of Iranian drones. Cooperation with these Gulf states could provide Ukraine with access to advanced technologies and weaponry, which is critically important given the current security situation. Support from international partners also helps to solidify Ukraine's position on the global stage amid its ongoing conflict.
