Today, May 16, at approximately 03:30, an F-16 aircraft of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost communication while performing a mission to repel an enemy air attack. This information was reported by 'Gromadske' citing the Air Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, the pilot destroyed three air targets and is engaged in combat with a fourth, using the aircraft's gun. However, an emergency situation occurred on board, and the pilot made the decision to eject, diverting the aircraft from the populated area.

The report also notes that the pilot's health condition is satisfactory, and he is safe. A commission has been appointed to objectively establish the circumstances of the incident and has already begun its work.

Recently, in August 2024, as a result of a massive attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, pilot Oleksiy Mesya was killed while piloting another F-16 fighter. At that time, he managed to shoot down three enemy missiles and a drone.
