Ukrainians' Trust in the U.S. Dropped to 18%: Results of a New Sociological Survey.
According to ТСН: Ukrainians' attitudes toward international partners and trust in individual allies have significantly changed over the past year.
Attitude Towards Europe
More than half of Ukrainians, namely 55%, believe that Europe continues to seriously support Ukraine and is interested in ending the war on fair terms. However, 33% of respondents think that European countries are tired of the war and are putting pressure on Kyiv for a compromise, albeit unfair peace. Moreover, the share of those who are undecided has increased from 6% at the beginning of October 2025 to 12%, which has reduced both the number of supporters and critics of Europe.
Attitude Towards the United States
The situation regarding attitudes towards the United States indicates negative dynamics. There is an increase in the share of Ukrainians who believe that the U.S. has grown tired of the war and is urging Ukraine to make concessions to Russia, from 52% to 59%. The number of those who see the U.S. as a reliable ally has decreased from 38% to 28%. Sociologists note that 2025 has already marked a decline in trust, as the lowest ratings were recorded in March.
Attitude Towards the European Union
Regarding the European Union, trust in it remains at the level of 48%, while 26% of Ukrainians do not trust the EU, and another 25% could not decide. The level of trust has almost not changed compared to December 2024, although the share of those who have a clear position has increased.
Trust in the U.S. and NATO
The situation with trust in the U.S. and NATO is alarming, as the indicators have significantly dropped. Currently, only 18% of respondents trust the U.S. (down from 41% in December 2024), while 52% expressed distrust, and another 30% could not give a definite answer.
Sociologists also emphasize that negative perceptions of U.S. policies do not extend to Americans in general. According to a survey in May 2025, 90% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude towards ordinary American citizens.
The number of optimists in Ukraine has decreased; however, locals still have more hope for a better future than people in Western Europe. The sociological group “Rating” conducted a survey among 1,000 respondents to find out their expectations for 2026.
Thus, Ukrainians continue to assess their support from international partners, and although the share of distrust is growing, it is important to note that these sentiments do not always reflect the attitude towards ordinary citizens of allied countries. These results may provide a basis for further analysis of international relations with Ukraine in an era of escalating global tension.
