Three Main Problems of Ukrainians in Spain: Driving, Service, and Employment

According to ТСН: More and more Ukrainians are exchanging experiences about life in Spain, discussing both the positive and negative aspects of their stay. The main difficulties faced by newcomers are concentrated in three areas: driving, service, and the job market.

A girl who relocated to Spain shared her experience. She highlighted three main problems she faces every day.

Driving Style and Behavior on the Roads

According to her, the most inconveniences are caused by driving style, service quality, and the difficult employment situation.

“Parking and driving are the first things that annoy me the most in Spain.”

She noted that local drivers often ignore road safety rules.

“People don't look in the mirrors, open doors even when another car is passing by. They confuse turn signals, shout 'right' instead of 'left', creating dangerous situations.”

She is especially irritated by parking near shopping centers.

“There’s a 90% chance of getting a fresh scratch on the car.”

The Second Point – Service

The blogger also noted that cafes and coffee shops often have a careless atmosphere: “Tables are dirty, nobody is in a hurry to wipe them. Waiters can forget part of the order or not bring it at all.”

She expressed dissatisfaction with tech stores, where products 'are seemingly available', but finding them is nearly impossible.

One of the issues remains the system of purchases without VAT that employees of foreign companies can use.

“The right exists, but it's impossible to use. Either the system is frozen, or the staff doesn't know how to process it.”

She specifically highlighted car washes: “Cards are not accepted as if it’s 1999 outside.”

The Third Problem – Job Market and Unemployment

“Without language, there is almost no work. Even with language, it’s not guaranteed that you will find something decent: salaries are low, competition is high.”

She emphasized that despite the fact that Spain is a wonderful place to live, finding stable and well-paid work is very challenging:

“This problem never disappears here.”

Life in Spain can be appealing; however, newly arrived Ukrainians face a range of challenges. In particular, the importance of language knowledge critically affects employment opportunities, while the service quality and road traffic specifics they have noted can significantly complicate the adaptation process. These issues certainly require attention not only from the immigrants themselves but also from the local population, which can provide a more comfortable environment for new residents.
