Ukrainian pilots wrap up F-16 training in Romania; some already flying combat missions.
President Zelenskyy’s visit to Romania
According to UATV: Ukrainian pilots are honing their skills on F-16 fighter jets at the European Training Center in Romania, a facility visited by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The training program for Ukrainian aviators kicked off in 2024 and covers a full curriculum, including classroom instruction and live flight exercises.
Zelenskyy noted that 'the first Ukrainian pilots began training at this center back in 2024.'
This underscores Ukraine’s active role in international military pilot training initiatives. Some Ukrainian pilots have already started carrying out combat operations, highlighting the real-world importance of their preparation amid current threats. The Romanian training gives these aviators the expertise and hands-on experience needed to operate effectively in the country’s airspace.
International defense cooperation
Zelenskyy’s visit emphasizes the value of global defense partnerships and military training, especially given the ongoing aggression. Ukraine’s involvement in the European Training Center reflects its drive to modernize its armed forces and boost combat readiness—a critical step for national security.
