The Financial Position of Ukrposhta

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's national postal operator, Ukrposhta, receives no funding from the state budget but continues to be one of the country's largest taxpayers. CEO Igor Smilyansky detailed the company's finances, revealing that it has contributed over three billion hryvnias to the state treasury. Despite the lack of government support, Ukrposhta maintains its operations and meets all its obligations.

The company faces significant financial headwinds, as highlighted by a National Bank of Ukraine forecast that it would need an infusion of 826 million hryvnias. Smilyansky further reported that Ukrposhta's depreciation last year exceeded 490 million hryvnias, while exchange rate losses reached over 400 million hryvnias. These figures underscore the challenging economic environment in which the state-owned enterprise operates.

A Record of Stability and Accountability

CEO Igor Smilyansky emphasized that despite financial losses, the company has not been involved in a single corruption scandal over the last nine years. 'How many state-owned companies can claim to have zero corruption scandals over a 9-year period?' he asked. Demonstrating a commitment to responsible management, Smilyansky has not received a bonus since February 2022, a period marked by war and financial instability.

Consequently, Ukrposhta remains a significant contributor to Ukraine's tax revenues without relying on state subsidies. This performance is notable for a critical infrastructure provider during a time of war. The situation highlights the broader challenges faced by Ukrainian state enterprises, which must often remain self-sufficient while supporting the national economy.
