On the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, "Ukrzaliznytsia" will broadcast the poetry of Ukrainian soldiers who died in the war at the country's largest stations. This was reported by the company's press service.

Every year on August 29, the country remembers Ukrainian military personnel and volunteers who fell defending our freedom. This day is a reminder of the price our nation pays to remain free and independent from Russia, for the right to choose our own path independently. And an occasion to continue the fight so that these sacrifices are not in vain', the statement reads.

This year, at the stations in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and Odesa, the poems of soldier-poets who gave their lives in the struggle to ensure the country continues to live will be heard throughout the day.

Thus, hourly throughout the day at the stations, it will be possible to hear the poems of Maksym Kryvtsov with the call sign Dali, Yuriy Ruf, Hlib Babich, Artem Dovhopoliy, Oleksandr Hoshylyak, and Illia Chernielevskyi. The poetry will be narrated by Pavlo Vyshebaba, Tetiana Vlasova, Maryna Krut, Sonia Sotnyk, Mykola Serha, Serhiy Kharchuk, Solomiya Vitvitska, and Illia Yarema.

Each of them did and could have done infinitely more, enriching our culture - but the pages of their lives will forever remain unfinished', notes "Ukrzaliznytsia".

Let us recall that today is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders who died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The date was established by decree of Volodymyr Zelensky in 2019 in memory of the tragic events of August 29, 2014, in Ilovaisk, Donetsk region.

Since mid-August, fierce battles between the occupiers and the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) took place in the city. On August 24-25, Ukrainian battalions were surrounded. On August 28, following negotiations, a decision was made to withdraw the Ukrainian defenders through a 'green corridor'.

However, on August 29, Russian military opened fire on the evacuation column. According to official data, 366 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, 429 were injured with varying degrees of severity, and 300 were captured.

By the way, "Ukrzaliznytsia" has introduced a special reserve of train tickets for military personnel and their families.
