Ukrzaliznytsia Updates Pet Travel Rules: Key Changes Announced.
Updated Pet Transport Regulations on Ukrainian Railways
According to Novyny.live: Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced fresh guidelines and restrictions for traveling with animals on trains, aimed at enhancing safety and comfort for all passengers. Pet owners are fully responsible for their animals during the journey. For transporting small dogs, cats, or parrots, a veterinary certificate and a secure carrier are now mandatory.
Requirements for Large Dogs
For large dogs—those exceeding 45 cm at the shoulder—owners must follow specific rules. These animals require:
- a leash,
- a muzzle,
- a separate ticket.
Large dogs are only allowed in designated carriages, including compartments, Lux, RIC, and on Intercity and Intercity+ trains. They can also travel in seated cars on regional trains.
To bring a large dog into a compartment, passengers must purchase all four seats; in Lux cars, two seats are required; in RIC cars, three seats must be bought. On Intercity and Intercity+ trains, travelers need to reserve all seats in a single block. On regional trains, dogs may be kept in the end vestibule of the first or last carriage.
These changes are designed to improve travel conditions for everyone, especially those journeying with their pets.
The new pet transport rules from Ukrzaliznytsia highlight the importance of comfort and safety not just for animal owners, but for all passengers on board.
With clear requirements for transporting large dogs, train travel is expected to become more orderly, potentially boosting overall service quality. At the same time, holding owners accountable and enforcing these standards helps minimize possible disruptions during trips for every passenger.
