Regional Rail Service Expansion

According to Novyny.live: Starting June 28, Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) will introduce an additional regional train connecting Odesa and Karolino-Buhaz. Operating on even-numbered days, train No. 838/837 offers a convenient travel option for those heading to this resort area. Departure from Odesa is scheduled for 09:17, with arrival in Karolino-Buhaz at 10:18. The return trip leaves Karolino-Buhaz at 10:40 and reaches Odesa by 11:46.

Tickets for this new regional service range from 112 to 130 UAH. For comparison, a standard commuter electric train costs:

  • 35 UAH for adults
  • 26 UAH for children
  • 18 UAH for students

While this new service provides a convenient way to reach the Black Sea coast, travelers should be aware that swimming is currently prohibited on local beaches due to the threat of sea mines.

Beach Safety Risks

Beaches in Karolino-Buhaz and Zatoka remain officially closed because of the danger of mine explosions. In 2022, a 42-year-old man died in Karolino-Buhaz after a sea mine detonated. More recently, on June 23, 2023, Russian forces attacked Odesa Oblast, killing a young woman. These tragic incidents highlight the serious risks associated with beach recreation in the Odesa region and underscore the importance of following safety precautions.

“While the new train between Odesa and Karolino-Buhaz offers a useful travel option, it is crucial to remember the ongoing dangers in this area.”

This additional train service marks an effort by Ukrzaliznytsia to improve access to popular resorts, potentially boosting domestic tourism. However, given the persistent threat of sea mine explosions, passengers must remain aware of the risks and adhere to all necessary safety measures when planning their trips.
