Ukrainian Railways Launches Routes to 8 European Nations, Pegging Ticket Prices to the Swiss Franc.
Ukrzaliznytsia Expands Its International Rail Network
According to Novyny.live: Ukrzaliznytsia is broadening its international rail services by introducing routes to eight European countries. Under a new pricing model tied to the Swiss franc exchange rate, Ukrainians can now access convenient travel options to Europe. Travelers will find cheaper fares on services that involve transfers at the Polish stations of Chełm, Przemyśl, and Rava-Ruska, making these a cost-effective choice for trips abroad.
The Ukrainian rail operator has signed an agreement with PKP Intercity to manage cross-border operations within Poland. This deal grants Ukrainian passengers access to Polish infrastructure, including locomotives and water refilling stations.
“This means access to Poland’s infrastructure, plus Polish locomotive traction, water refueling there, and so on,” Ukrzaliznytsia representatives explained.
Pricing and Student Discounts
Students can take advantage of a 50% discount, though this offer is limited to second-class seats in sleeping cars and Intercity+ carriages. Tickets for international journeys go on sale 20 days before departure, between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. This schedule allows passengers to plan their trips well in advance.
Fares for Ukrzaliznytsia’s European routes vary depending on the chosen itinerary and service class. The ticket price covers essential services, but specifics may differ based on the class selected.
Common inquiries focus on the rules for purchasing tickets for Ukrzaliznytsia’s international trains. Ukrainians can benefit from the new tariffs and travel conditions, making journeys more affordable and convenient for exploring European destinations.
It is worth noting that EU countries use a 3-shelf carriage gauge, a factor that influences route planning. Ukrzaliznytsia continues to work on enhancing its services and expanding its network to better serve passengers.
The expansion of Ukrzaliznytsia’s international rail routes meets the growing demand for comfortable and affordable travel to Europe, particularly among Ukrainian travelers. It also reflects Ukraine’s active efforts to strengthen transport links with European nations, which could boost tourism and foster deeper economic ties across the region.
