Ukrzaliznytsia Adjusts Train Schedules Due to Russian Shelling: Updated Timetable for February 20.
Ukrzaliznytsia Announces Revised Train Schedules
According to Novyny.live: In response to ongoing Russian shelling, Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, has implemented changes to its train schedules. The updated timetable, published as of February 20, reflects the volatile security situation. For instance, while trains continue to operate in the Sumy region, disruptions to suburban and regional services remain a significant possibility.
Due to active hostilities, train service on the section from Lozova to Kramatorsk in the Kharkiv region has been suspended. However, regional express trains to Izyum are running without interruption, providing a vital transport link for passengers. Additionally, travel between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia is now primarily facilitated by bus services, which serve as an alternative to the suspended rail connection.
Ukrzaliznytsia has warned passengers to anticipate potential delays and further schedule alterations. The company also noted that 'several long-distance routes to and from Zaporizhzhia are in the planning stages, but final decisions will depend on the operational security assessment.' These disruptions are a direct consequence of Russia's full-scale invasion, which has severely impacted civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.
New Funding Model for Ukrainian Rail Services
Separately, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new rules for financing train operations, set to take effect from the end of February. A state order for passenger transportation worth UAH 16 billion is planned for 2026, aimed at stabilizing the national railway system's long-term operations.
The current schedule changes underscore the severe challenges to transportation and civilian mobility caused by the ongoing war, particularly in frontline regions. While the new funding framework is designed to improve services in the future, passengers are advised to exercise caution and account for possible delays when planning their journeys for the foreseeable future.
