Ukrainian Railways Reroutes Trains Due to Shelling, Substituting Buses on Key Routes.
Ukrzaliznytsia Alters Train Schedules
According to Novyny.live: Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state railway operator, has announced significant schedule changes for several regions due to ongoing shelling. These disruptions particularly affect routes to the Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. For instance, train service on the Lozova – Barvinkove – Kramatorsk line has been suspended entirely, replaced by temporary bus transfers. Furthermore, on February 2nd, bus services will also substitute rail transport between the cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. These adjustments are a direct consequence of the active conflict in eastern and southern Ukraine.
Travel to the Kharkiv region is now only possible via lengthy detours, significantly complicating passenger journeys. Meanwhile, in the Sumy region, trains continue to operate despite reported shelling near Konotop. Ukrzaliznytsia is urging all passengers to account for these changes when planning their travel and to stay informed.
Current State of Rail Operations
Overall, the situation for rail travel remains complex and volatile, especially in areas under direct fire, while service in other regions continues normally. The railway network is a critical lifeline for the country, making these disruptions particularly impactful.
These operational shifts underscore Ukrzaliznytsia's continued prioritization of passenger safety amid the ongoing war. The implementation of bus transfers is a temporary measure to maintain essential connectivity, but it also signals a deteriorating security situation in specific areas. Passengers are advised to exercise heightened caution and monitor official updates closely when arranging their journeys.
