On February 23, the 71st anniversary of Viktor Yushchenko's birth is celebrated - the most popular politician in Ukraine. His election as president was the result of the Orange Revolution, which arose due to falsifications in the presidential elections of 2004.

Viktor Yushchenko was born in 1954 in a family of teachers in Sumy region. After graduating from the financial and economic institute, he served in the border troops of the Soviet Army and worked as an economist in Sumy region.

After that, Yushchenko began his career in the banking system of Ukraine and became the head of the National Bank. Under his leadership, a monetary reform was carried out and the Ukrainian national currency - the hryvnia - was introduced. He also participated in the creation and management of economic reforms that strengthened the Ukrainian economy in the 1990s.

In 1999, Yushchenko became the Prime Minister of Ukraine, and in 2002 he founded and headed an opposition bloc that entered the Verkhovna Rada. He came to power as president after mass protests in 2004, provoked by electoral falsifications.

Viktor Yushchenko actively fought against corruption and opposed Russia. During his presidency, he aimed at integrating Ukraine into the European Union and NATO, conducted economic reforms, and supported Ukrainian culture and language.

Despite positive achievements, Yushchenko was criticized for the unsuccessful implementation of promised reforms and divisions in the country. After his presidential term ended, he remained active in politics, although his popularity declined.

Today, Yushchenko lives in the village of Novi Bezradichi near Kyiv, where he has his estate with a beehive and a mini-museum of Ukrainian culture.
