P. Diddy asked Trump for a pardon: the president denied the rapper.
According to ТСН: American rapper and producer Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy, approached US President Donald Trump with a request for a pardon amidst his prison sentence.
Combs wrote a personal letter to Trump, asking him to reconsider his case and free him from punishment. The president confirmed that he received the letter but viewed this initiative with irony. During a conversation with journalists, Trump, responding to a question about the letter, sarcastically remarked:
"Oh, you would like to see it?"
However, Trump did not show the letter and immediately emphasized that he has no intention of granting the rapper a pardon. This position was later confirmed by the White House, stating that P. Diddy's petition was reviewed, but there are no grounds for a positive decision.
Court Verdict
On October 3, a federal court in New York issued a sentence to Sean Combs, sentencing him to 50 months in prison — over four years behind bars. Recall that in May, the jury found him guilty of transporting people between US states for the purpose of participating in organized drug-fueled sex parties. At the same time, the rapper was acquitted of more serious charges — racketeering and human trafficking, which could have resulted in life imprisonment.
Conflict with Trump
Interestingly, relations between Donald Trump and P. Diddy soured after the 2016 presidential campaign, when the rapper publicly criticized Trump.
In the context of this situation, it is worth noting that Combs's appeal reflects his attempts to save himself in the face of a serious legal challenge. His relationship with Trump may complicate his chances of receiving a pardon, as potential political considerations always remain on the agenda.
