Dozens of people executed in Iran during the presidential elections
In the last week, dozens of people were executed in Iran during the presidential election period, which lasted a long hiatus. According to Iranian human rights groups, at least 30 prisoners, convicted of murder or drug-related crimes, were hanged in various prisons between July 20-27.
Human rights groups reported that the number of executions decreased in the first half of the year due to the presidential elections. But they warn that after the voting, the number of executions might increase.
Masoud Pezeshkian from the reformist party won in the second round of elections on July 5. On July 28, he was confirmed in his position by Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
