In Spain, former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council detained.
Detainment of the former official of the Ukrainian NSDC in Spain
Law enforcement agencies in Spain have detained the former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleg Gladkovsky. He is currently under investigation for causing damages amounting to 17.44 million hryvnias, reported the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
According to information from anti-corruption agencies, Gladkovsky used his official position and received illegal benefits for the company 'Bogdan Motors', which belongs to him and his close associates.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine asserts that together with colleagues from the Ministry of Defense, Gladkovsky was procuring trucks at inflated prices, resulting in significant losses for the state budget.
In November 2023, Gladkovsky left for abroad, and in April 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court reviewed his case. The possibility of extraditing the detainee to Ukraine for further judicial proceedings is currently being discussed.
Analysis
The situation surrounding the detainment of the former official of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council in Spain raises questions about corruption schemes in the Ukrainian defense sector and the necessity of implementing effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
