Sharp Price Hikes for Chicken and Turkey Hit Odesa Markets: New Rates Revealed.
Odesa Sees Rising Costs for Poultry Meat
According to Novyny.live: Poultry prices in Odesa have climbed sharply, reshaping consumer demand in the city. Vendors report that the upward trend began last week and is now clearly reflected in shopping patterns. According to Anastasia, a local seller:
“Prices went up a bit this week. They actually started rising last week. Chicken fillet is now 250 hryvnias per kilogram.” - Anastasia
At the Novyi Bazar market, current poultry prices are as follows:
- Chicken fillet - 250 UAH/kg
- Whole chicken - 145 UAH/kg
- Drumstick - 130 UAH/kg
- Chicken wings - 140 UAH/kg
Turkey prices range from 280 to 350 UAH/kg, with boneless drumsticks at 180 UAH and soup sets at 35 UAH.
In March, chicken fillet jumped from 220 UAH/kg in February to 250 UAH/kg. However, whole chicken became cheaper, dropping from about 200 UAH/kg to 140-145 UAH/kg. Chicken legs also saw a price cut, falling from 200 UAH/kg in February to 130-150 UAH/kg in March.
Anastasia also notes a decline in demand:
“People are buying less. Lent is a factor, and it’s hitting wallets hard. Electricity and fuel costs have gone up—everything affects the price at once.” - Anastasia
February Poultry Prices at Cheremushky Market
At the Cheremushky market in February, poultry prices were as follows:
- Chicken fillet - 220 UAH/kg
- Free-range chicken - 200 UAH/kg
- Broth chicken - 230 UAH/kg
- Chicken thighs - 200 UAH/kg
- Duck - 220 UAH/kg
- Duck fillet - 220 UAH/kg
Despite these fluctuations, Odesa’s food supply remains stable. The rising cost of chicken and turkey may point to broader market trends that are reshaping consumer behavior. Price increases are likely tied to economic pressures like higher energy costs and inflation. The drop in poultry demand could also stem from seasonal shifts and religious fasting, highlighting how socio-economic factors drive market dynamics. Overall, Odesa’s food market continues to evolve and warrants close monitoring.
