Odesa Hosts ‘Trees of Remembrance’ Memorial Event

According to Novyny.live: On June 22, Odesa held the ‘Trees of Remembrance’ event, marking the Day of Mourning and remembrance of war victims. During the initiative, participants planted trees and adorned them with tags and ribbons, symbolizing the memory of those who lost their lives. The event took place near each district administration in the city, helping to engage a broader audience in this significant occasion.

Establishing Permanent Memorial Sites

The organizers plan to create permanent memorial locations across Odesa’s districts. The idea for these sites emerged during the winter of 2025–2026, aiming to preserve the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence and peace. Ukraine’s ongoing war began in 2014, making the honoring of fallen soldiers a key part of supporting veterans and their families.

Participants shared their thoughts on the importance of remembrance.

Anhelina Liubchak stated: ‘Today we remember all those who never returned from the battlefield. Our heroes will forever remain in our memory.’
Marat Korolov emphasized:
‘For us, the most important thing is remembering the fallen—our heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice: their lives for safety, independence, and peace.’
Oleh Bychkov also spoke about the event’s significance: ‘I came to pay tribute to the fallen. These people gave their lives—the most precious thing anyone has.’

The ‘Trees of Remembrance’ initiative has become a symbol of honoring those who died in the war, underscoring the need to preserve history for future generations.

This effort marks an important step in building a culture of remembrance in Ukraine, especially amid the ongoing conflict. Planting trees and creating memorial sites not only honors the fallen but also helps unite society during a challenging time for the country. In this way, ‘Trees of Remembrance’ may serve as a symbol of national unity and support for veterans, their families, and all affected by the war.
