In Ukraine, prices for a popular vegetable have collapsed: its cost has dropped by half.
The vegetable market continues to demonstrate a decrease in prices, particularly for fresh produce. The consumer price index for vegetables in June 2025 was 88.08%, which indicates a 11.92% decrease in prices compared to the previous month. The overall decrease in fruit and vegetable prices was 6.42% compared to May.
Radical changes in the root vegetable segment
Early potatoes and young cabbage showed the most significant price drops. Young cabbage lost 66% of its value in a month and now costs an average of 25 UAH per kilogram. Early potatoes decreased from 15-40 UAH/kg to 10-20 UAH/kg. Early beets, carrots, and onions also showed some price reduction.
Ambiguous dynamics of greenhouse crops
Prices for cucumbers started to rise due to limited supply before the second rotation, although they have slightly decreased in supermarkets. Tomato prices depend on the variety and sales channel. The steady decrease in prices for cabbages and greens continues, including zucchini, broccoli, and green onions.
Factors of price fluctuations
The price decline is attributed to the increased supply of the new harvest and favorable weather conditions. However, some vegetables have become more expensive due to a reduction in stocks from last year's harvest. A further decrease in vegetable prices is expected in July, particularly for some salad vegetables.
