Prices for cucumbers and tomatoes in Ukraine continue to rise sharply. This is reported by the Finportal. The price of these vegetables continues to surprise buyers in Ukrainian markets and stores. The increase in cucumber prices is particularly noticeable. Many Ukrainians are now forced to look for more affordable options for their diet. Let's consider how the prices of cucumbers and tomatoes differ in supermarkets and markets.
Prices in supermarkets:
- Cucumbers:
- soared in price from 101.63 UAH to 145.50 UAH per kilo;
- smooth cucumbers increased from 100.54 UAH/kg to 165.60 UAH/kg;
- long cucumbers increased in price from 77.58 UAH/kg to 159.00 UAH/kg;
- spiky cucumbers increased from 106.38 UAH/kg to 139.90 UAH/kg;
- short cucumbers increased from 91.53 UAH/kg to 136.70 UAH/kg.
- Tomatoes:
- red tomatoes increased from 90.63 UAH/kg to 107.60 UAH/kg;
- pink tomatoes increased from 96.00 UAH/kg to 114.90 UAH/kg;
- cream tomatoes increased from 78.08 UAH/kg to 127.46 UAH/kg.
In the Kyiv market, cucumbers can be purchased for a price ranging from 100 to 120 UAH per kilo, while imported cucumbers sell for 150 to 180 UAH/kg. Red tomatoes cost between 70 and 90 UAH per kilo, and pink tomatoes range from 110 to 115 UAH per kilo.
In the Odesa market 'Pochatok', wholesale prices for red tomatoes range from 50 to 55 UAH per kilo, while fresh tomatoes are available from 26 to 30 UAH per kilo. However, Mikado tomatoes cost between 160 and 250 UAH per kilo (wholesale price - 65-150 UAH per kilo). Ukrainian cucumbers in this market cost between 140 and 170 UAH per kilo (wholesale price - from 100 to 150 UAH per kilo).
The high prices of cucumbers and tomatoes have become a problem for many Ukrainians who have to look for alternative options for their table.
