NBU has released a silver coin Spirit of Christmas with a diamond: where to buy the unique symbol.

According to ТСН: The National Bank of Ukraine has presented a new commemorative coin "Spirit of Christmas," dedicated to the sacred traditions of the Ukrainian people before the winter holidays.

Description of the coin

The coin aims to immortalize the customs of Holy Evening when the family gathers around the festive table.

The obverse of the coin features a central element - a straw didukh, a traditional Ukrainian amulet symbolizing the harvest. It is adorned with a straw angel and the background is designed as a window glowing with known stars, one of which - the Bethlehem star - is inlaid with a real diamond.

The reverse of the coin depicts a traditional pre-Christmas feast. The artists skillfully combined the images of the father, mother, and children with the heavenly worlds (Sun, Moon, and stars). The table is presented with 12 dishes, including kutya, dumplings, and pampukh.

"Our new commemorative coin 'Spirit of Christmas' has absorbed the deep traditions of the bright family holiday that generations of Ukrainians have kept together. And although many families are divided by distance today, in each other's hearts we gather at a common festive table," noted NBU Chairman Andriy Pyshny.

This coin holds high artistic and material value, as it is made of precious metals and stones.

• Fine weight: 31.1 g.

• Decoration: double-sided local gilding and a 1.5 mm diamond inset.

• Nominal: 10 hryvnias.

• Circulation: up to 15,000 pieces.

The creation of the coin involved artists Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr and Serhiy Kharyuki, as well as sculptors Anatoliy Demyanenko and Volodymyr Atamanchuk.

Where and when to buy

The sale of the "Spirit of Christmas" coin will begin in January 2026. It will be available for purchase in the online store of numismatic products of the National Bank and in distributing banks. Recall that the Ukrainian commemorative coin 'Country of superheroes. Thank you, doctors!' won in the category 'Most Inspiring Coin' and entered the top 10 of the Coin of the Year contest. The NBU released it into circulation on July 26, 2024, in the series 'Immortal My Ukraine'. The coin, nominally 5 UAH, made of nickel silver with a circulation of up to 50,000 pieces, features symbolic images in honor of doctors who save lives.
