According to The Times, the United Kingdom is in negotiations with the United States regarding the purchase of F-35A Lightning fighter jets, which can carry B61-12 nuclear bombs. This deal is considered a significant step towards nuclear deterrence for the country since the Cold War.
The F-35A jets from Lockheed Martin will strengthen the UK's defense capability against the growing threat from Russia. These fighter jets have the longest range among all F-35 variants and are capable of carrying B61 nuclear bombs of varying yields - from 0.3 to 340 kilotons. It is worth mentioning that the bomb dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of 15 kilotons.
Adding the United Kingdom to the list of countries capable of carrying nuclear bombs on F-35A aircraft is an important step in strengthening the country's nuclear strategy and may have a significant impact on the geopolitical situation in the world.Read also
