Planned Prisoner Exchange Between Ukraine and Russia

According to UATV: A substantial exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia could take place on Easter Sunday, April 12. This announcement came from Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, during a statement made on March 26. The timing signals that active negotiations between the two sides over potential swaps are currently underway.

Budanov confirmed that talks are ongoing and that additional exchanges will occur in the future. He expressed optimism that Ukrainians would witness a major exchange event during the Easter holiday.

“I truly hope that by Easter we will all see a large-scale exchange,” Kyrylo Budanov stated.

The Role of International Support

Over the past four years, the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoner of War Affairs has successfully brought 8,669 individuals back to Ukraine. Budanov also emphasized the critical role played by international partners in facilitating these exchanges.

“Our partners stand with us, and without them, organizing many of these swaps would have been extremely difficult,” Kyrylo Budanov added.

Ukrainian authorities continue their efforts to secure the return of military personnel still held in captivity. The hope for a successful Easter exchange underscores how deeply this issue resonates with Ukrainian society and the families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.

Prisoner exchanges remain a cornerstone of Ukraine’s humanitarian policy, as they directly impact the lives and futures of soldiers’ families. The ongoing negotiations point to the possibility of positive developments in bilateral relations, even as the broader situation stays challenging. The emphasis on international support highlights the global dimension of the conflict and the necessity of cooperation to address humanitarian concerns.
