Detention of Maduro: How Russia's Failure Undermines the Myth of a Multipolar World.
According to ТСН: The US operation to detain Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro demonstrated the vulnerability of the so-called 'multipolar world' that the Kremlin actively promotes. Actions by US President Donald Trump have shown that the anti-Western alliances, which Vladimir Putin relies on, are incapable of providing real support to their allies.
Analysts note that Moscow has once again proven to be an unreliable partner at a critical moment. Similar situations have occurred in Nagorno-Karabakh, Syria, and Iran, where Russia either did not intervene or was unable to do so. Against this background, Trump's actions appear more decisive and effective compared to the Kremlin's attempts to demonstrate its power.
Russia's Weakness as a Geopolitical Player
Political scientist and former Kremlin speechwriter Abbas Gallyamov believes that Putin finds himself in a disadvantageous position: what the Russian leader promised to implement in Ukraine, the US accomplished in Venezuela in a short period. In his opinion, this has dealt a serious blow to Russia's reputation as a geopolitical player.
Even among Russian ultra-nationalists, there is an emerging sentiment that Moscow 'has lost face'. Former FSB officer Igor Girkin noted that yet another country, which was counting on support from Russia, has been left without assistance.
Loss of Kremlin Influence
For years, Russia has cultivated an image as the main opponent of the West and protector of authoritarian regimes. However, the war in Ukraine has revealed the limits of its capabilities. The Kremlin was unable to prevent the defeats of its allies in Karabakh, the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and military strikes against Iran. Now, Venezuela has been added to this list.
Despite sharp statements about 'violations of sovereignty', Moscow has been largely limited to words. Open attacks on the US are increasingly heard in Russian media, with propagandists arguing that the US can carry out actions that Russia is unable to.
The Situation in International Politics
Experts point out the irony of the situation: the world where 'might is right', which Putin tried to create himself, is now being demonstrated by the US as they show how the new rules work, leaving the Kremlin in the role of an observer.
The US State Department has proclaimed the Western Hemisphere an exclusive zone of Washington's influence, warning adversaries against establishing military bases in this region. Trump characterized this strategy as the 'Donroe Doctrine', marking a radical update of the historical Monroe Doctrine. Against the backdrop of the trial of Maduro in New York, American politicians emphasized that US dominance in the region has become unassailable, and all attempts by competitors to interfere in hemisphere affairs will be harshly curtailed.
Thus, the situation in international politics demonstrates that the US is actively strengthening its positions in the Latin American region, highlighting the decline of Russian influence. These events, particularly the detention of Maduro, may become a turning point in geopolitical relations among states, establishing new, stricter rules of the game.
