Appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense

According to TSN.ua: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense on January 14. This is already the fourth Minister of Defense during the full-scale war. 277 deputies voted for Fedorov's appointment. Earlier, on January 13, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed him from the position of First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Transformation.

Biography and Career

Mykhailo Fedorov was born in 1991 in the city of Vasylivka in Zaporizhia. From 2015 to 2019, he founded and led the internet agency SMMSTUDIO. In 2019, Fedorov headed the digital direction of Volodymyr Zelensky's presidential campaign, and that same year he became Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation.

During his tenure as Minister of Digital Transformation, Fedorov initiated the 'Diia' project, which transfers state services to smartphones. He is also working on the 'Diia.City' project, which aims to create special tax conditions for IT companies.

The appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense reflects the ongoing changes in the Ukrainian government amidst the ongoing war. Given his experience in digital technologies, it is hoped that he will be able to implement innovative solutions to improve Ukraine's defense structures. This also indicates attempts by the Ukrainian leadership to adapt to new challenges and find effective ways to support the armed forces in the modern digital environment.
