10-Year Prison Sentence Upheld for Priest Convicted of Abusing His Daughters.
Priest’s Conviction for Child Sexual Abuse Finalized
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s Supreme Court has upheld the prison sentence of a priest found guilty of sexually abusing his own daughters and producing child pornography. The 47-year-old father of two girls, who were 13 and 12 at the time of the crimes, carried out the abuse over a three-year period. He was arrested on April 6, 2023.
An appellate court initially overturned the first conviction in 2024, but in 2025, a retrial once again found him guilty of child sexual abuse as well as producing and storing child pornography. For these offenses, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In November 2025, the court of appeals upheld that sentence.
Public Reaction to the Case
Taking the case further, the Supreme Court rejected the defense’s cassation appeal in May 2026, thereby confirming the rulings of the lower courts. This case has sparked widespread public discussion, highlighting the severity of crimes involving child sexual abuse and the production of pornography. It serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need to strengthen protections for children against sexual violence.
This case has sent a powerful signal to society about the urgent need to enhance child protection measures against sexual violence and related offenses.
The Supreme Court’s decision underscores that justice can be achieved even after multiple levels of judicial review. The widespread discussion of this case may also help raise awareness about the issue of child sexual abuse and the importance of taking preventive action.
