Pianistka Leonska lost her concert in the Netherlands due to performance in Moscow.
According to ТСН: Famous Austrian pianist Elizaveta Leonska, who has Soviet origins, faced the consequences of her performances in Moscow on the same stage with a supporter of Putin during the war in Ukraine.
Concert in the Netherlands
The artist planned to perform on December 4 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. However, this event caused quite a stir among the Ukrainian community, as on November 21 she played at a Moscow theater that offers free tickets for occupiers and their families. Additionally, conductor Yuri Bashmet, who openly supports the policies of the Kremlin dictator, was present at her concert.
Reaction of Ukrainian representatives
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Netherlands approached Muziekgebouw with a request to cancel the pianist's concert. According to the publication ED, this provoked active discussions about the situation. It is worth noting that Elizaveta Leonska is not a citizen of Russia and has not made any comments regarding the war in Ukraine.
Cancellation of the performance
Essentially, Elizaveta Leonska's performance was canceled. The main reason for this decision was that the Moscow theater where she previously performed actively invites occupiers who commit crimes in Ukraine to its events.
Recently, Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov faced consequences for supporting the war in Ukraine when his performance was canceled in Italy.
This situation emphasizes how cultural contexts are closely intertwined with today's political realities. The experiences that artists endure on the international stage reflect the societal pain and contradictions arising from war. Professionals in the arts sector increasingly face moral challenges and demands to consider their place in a world scarred by conflict.
